LONG, OPTIMAL SEPARABLE and a TAILBOARD
D-TEC and Burgers Carrosserie have joined forces and developed a new Heavy and Long Vehicles concept.
They do not yet have a proper name for their joint project, but one thing that is certain, is that D-TEC based in Kesteren and Burgers Carrosserie based in Aalsmeer last month found themselves developing a new Heavy and Long Vehicles concept. In this project, the separable container trailer built by D-TEC acts as the base for a distribution Heavy and Long Vehicle devised by Burgers. By making clever use of the various components, it has even been found to be possible to fit a conventional tailboard and/or a cool/freeze installation to both trailers. This is a concept where Burgers will be responsible for sales in the Netherlands, assembly the body whilst D-TEC will construct and assembly the chassis components. D-TEC is also responsible for the sales outside the Netherlands.
Burgers: “Over the years, we have developed and built various Heavy and Long Vehicle combinations. Even so, those solutions were not ideal by far for all customers. Within the distribution sector, in particular in the supermarket world, but also in the mixed cargo and the flowers and plants distribution sector, there was still a demand for suitable Heavy and Long Vehicle solutions. With that already in mind, we arrived at D-TEC’s Combidolly concept. They have a developed an excellent, reliable and patented system for the container sector and that was actually found to be the solution to our problem.”
Burgers is now starting to build a closed articulated truck for (conditioned) transport, with a lower chassis height (upwards of 1.12 metres), a front semi-trailer of 8.20 metres and a normal two or three-axle trailer of 13.60 metres. As a second variant, there will be a combination with two 10.5-metre-long city trailers. For both variants there is an option of easily fitting a cool/freeze installation, but also a conventional tailboard. “The latter is certainly of great importance to the (supermarket) distribution sector. At the unloading site, they need to have a solid and reliable tailboard. We are able to offer that with this concept. Otherwise, the semi-trailers can be designed fully in accordance with our customers’ wishes, so they could, for example, also have three compartments, or a through-load option. The number of axles will be determined in consultation with the customer, as will the number of controlled and liftable axles. These are things that are all offered by D-TEC, where they are also developed.”
The 1 or 2-axle Combidolly forms the heart of the combination, which links the front to the rear semi-trailer. This is done using a long shaft which tapers at the end, which also simplifies the manoeuvring. The second advantage is that the trailers can also be used individually, where the 8.20-metre-long semi-trailer can be an equally practical and versatile replacement for a closed box truck. In this story, trucks are clearly preferred because they are more versatile in terms of their use.
By making optimal use of the unique features of the D-TEC Combidolly system, Burgers Carrosserie offers a whole range of options as far as closed semi-trailers in connection with Heavy and Long Vehicle are concerned. The number of axles is determined depending on the customer’s wishes, loading capacity and the type of semi-trailers (these axles may or may not be controlled). A double-deck semi-trailer (which Burgers builds in numerous designs) that is 13.60 metres in length, or a standard sliding tarpaulin trailer, can be included in the Combidolly configuration. According to Burgers, under current legislation, there is even an option of combining a 10.50-metre trailer with a trailer of 11.30 metres.
